Course Aim
- To provide delegates with a basic awareness of electrical safety and specific detail associated with hybrid & electric vehicles.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Describe the most common EV variants, approximate voltages, and average electric only range of vehicles currently available.
- Recognise the main dangers associated with Electric Vehicles
- Understand the importance of HSE/EWR legislation.
- Outline the main differences between the types of chargers available and the reasons behind the variation in charge lead connections.
- Recognise the Lotus EV qualifications, Lotus EV processes and acknowledge the importance of adhering to them.
EV Informed Person
Course Aim
- To gain the knowledge required to work safely on and around high voltage vehicles.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Explain the various levels of the Lotus EV qualifications, the authority levels, and their responsibilities within these levels.
- Describe what a Safe systems of work document is, their contents and understand the importance of following them.
- Outline the need for a Permit-to-work, who can issue them and who can receive them
- Explain the reasons for a vehicle being Quarantined and what this entails
- Outline the need for a Sanction-for-live-work, who can issue them and who can receive them
- Recognisethe HV system status of an EV in a workshop environment.
- Appreciate how little current is required to cause injury or death
High Voltage Component Handling
Course Aim
- To enable safe and confident storage and movement of HV & Energy Storage components for persons involved in the Logistics of HV components & systems
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Investigate best practice regarding the handling and safe storage of HV components
- Recognise HV components in isolation to their vehicle application, and associated warning labels
- Prevent damage to HV Components
- Warning signs that something is wrong with a HV Component
- What to do if something is wrong with a HV component
- Investigate the packaging & transport of HV components
- Investigate the Lotus HV Quarantine & Segregation procedures
EV Competent Person
Course Aim
- Enable Safe and confident work on a powered down Electric Vehicle whilst following a Lotus Safe System of Work.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Recognise HV system features, components, and warning labels
- Understand fully their responsibilities within the Competent Persons role
- Describe fully the effects of electricity on the human body
- Recognise what an Arc-Flash is, the effects, how it is produced and how to avoid them
- Understand the hazards associated with High Voltage Traction Batteries
- Describe the emergency actions to be taken if electrocution happens
- Investigate the HV bonding system and describe the operation
- Investigate the Lotus EV Quarantine process
- Recognise their responsibilities whilst working under a Permit to work
EV Authorised Person
Course Aim
- To provide the delegate with the knowledge and practical skills required to power down a Lotus High Voltage vehicle, following a Safe System of Work
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge requirements of the EV Competent Person course.
- Describe basic electrical principles
- Recognise High Voltage components and their function
- Describe High Voltage Safety System function & operation
- Investigate Insulation testing of HV cabling
- Describe HV DC Isolation monitoring
- Investigate the principles of powering down, bonding system testing and powering up procedures including mandatory documents
- Quarantine a HV vehicle
EV Senior Authorised Person
Course Aim
- To provide the delegate (EVAP) with the knowledge and practical skills required to perform Live Working on a Lotus High Voltage vehicle following a Safe System of Work. Familiarisation of all mandatory documents associated with Live Working
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge requirements of the EV Authorised Person course.
- Investigate & describe Hazards associated with Live Working
- Carry out Live Working Safety Assessments
- Investigate and describe EV Senior Authorised Person responsibilities
- Define what is meant by Live Working
- Identify the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for Live Working
- Investigate and complete the documentation required for Live Working
EV Engineering Senior Authorised Person
Course Aim
- To provide the delegate with the knowledge and practical skills required to produce Safe System of Work documents and procedures to perform Live Working on a Lotus High Voltage vehicle
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge requirements of the EV Senior Authorised Person course.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the additional hazards posed by engineering vehicles such as unverified software, prototype hardware, incomplete system design or implementation.
- Understand the risks of working live on a potentially unpredictable HV system
- Risk mitigation
- Safe System of Work Generation to enable safe working for all persons following that process.
Managers Introduction to EV Safety
Course Aim
- To provide the delegate with the overarching concepts of an EV Safety Framework
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Recognise the dangers of electricity and requirements for safe working
- Investigate personal & corporate responsibilities
- Understand the difference between Proving dead and Working Live
- Understand Authority levels

We can also produce bespoke training and safety documentation for virtually any requirements; however, they must still be produced within the boundaries set out by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
